Darin's Visit

Damon's brother, Darin, came for a visit last weekend to refinish the Covenant Church gym floor.  He worked hard for 4 days, and what a difference he made.  Thanks Darin!

(Evernote owns Skitch) Skitch has historically been a great screen capture app.  It allows you to quickly grab a screenshot, add arrows, circles, or text, and then easily share. Skitch now has the ability to add "stamps" and annotate PDF's.  I could see Skitch being used by teachers who need to provide feedback on a variety of student submitted PDF assignments. Check it out!

How to blog with a fuzzy internet connection

I don't know how many times I've been inspired to update one of my blogs and have the wind taken out of my sails by fuzzy internet. I define fuzzy internet as internet that might be working, but I may have to reload pages more than once. Internet that works, but isn't reliable or even usable. If you rely on logging in to your website for ever little update, the fuzzy internet in Bush Alaska can be a real bummer. MarsEdit is a lightweight application that really helps you update your blog when your internet is down (which happens a lot for me). Since it is an actual application running on your computer it doesn't rely on an internet connection. I can click it open and start writing immediately; there's no waiting for pages to slowly load or frustration when the network croaks. It's a deceptively simple application, that just works for posting text and images. But it also integrates with Flickr, and can publish to as many sites as you need. It publishes as txt ...

Alaska Principals' Conference 2015

SESSION TITLE: Implementing an RTI Schedule at the Middle School Level using Social Media, Board Presentations, Apps, and More Passionate principals work hard to change the status quo in our schools.  Our presentation will help principals see how to make change in a difficult environment with many obstacles present.  Principals will learn strategies for preparing the school community for change in a positive way so that when the change comes, they will be ready to get on board.  Principals will also learn about the Pickr app, which allows students to pick their own tutorials and make ad-hoc groups in a quick and efficient manner.
